Apitherapy
Apitherapy refers to “bee therapy” (apis – bee in Latin, therapiae – therapy/service/treatment) or, more correctly, therapy carried out with the products made by honey bees (honey, pollen, beeswax, propolis, royal jelly, bee venom, herbs). Apitherapy is a practice with ancient origins, being mentioned in treatises dating back to 2500 BC. While in ancient times, the main uses of bee products were mainly for the relief of skin disorders and for the general well-being of the body, today apitherapy has proven benefits in the relief of many diseases. With the help of studies, clinical observations and partner apitherapists, our mission is to develop functional bee food supplements to combat symptoms and diseases that can affect: the immune system, liver/cardiovascular/respiratory function, digestive system, renal system, etc. One of the great advantages of apitherapy is that it helps prevent illness by strengthening immunity and increasing quality of life.
What propolis is and how it works
A well-known beekeeping ingredient, propolis is a mixture of resinous substances, beeswax, vegetable wax and bee saliva, with intense and proven therapeutic value, in various standardised forms. The compounds contained in propolis have made it a genuine antiviral, antifungal, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agent.
Here is what propolis – the third most important component of beekeeping – contains: it is mainly composed of resin (50%), wax (30%), essential oils (10%), pollen (5%) and other organic compounds (5%). Phenolic compounds, esters, flavonoids, terpenes, beta-steroids, aromatic aldehydes and alcohols are the important organic compounds present in propolis. Twelve different flavonoids, namely, pinocembrin, acacetin, chrysin, rutin, luteolin, kaempferol, apigenin, myricetin, catechin, naringenin, galangin and quercetin; two phenolic acids, caffeic acid and cinnamic acid and a stilbene derivative called resveratrol were detected in propolis extracts. Propolis also contains important vitamins such as B1, B2, B6, C and E and useful minerals such as magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), potassium (K), sodium (Na), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), manganese (Mn) and iron (Fe). Several enzymes, such as succinic dehydrogenase, gluco-6-phosphatase, adenosine triphosphatase and acid phosphatase, are also present in propolis.
Supplements containing propolis play an important role in reducing inflammation caused by arthritis, for example. Also, thanks to its antiviral and antimicrobial effects, supplements containing propolis support the body’s immunity by stimulating the production of antibodies and creating the conditions for good absorption of nutrients into the body.
What black pepper extract is and how it works
Black Pepper is a common spice used around the world to season foods. Surprisingly, it can make certain nutrients much better absorbed by our bodies! Bioperine is a standardized extract of black pepper that contains 95% piperine (an alkaloid). Bioperine works through various mechanisms to promote increased absorption of vitamins and nutrients such as beta carotene, curcumin, vitamin C, CoQ10 and other water-soluble fats and vitamins and plant extracts.
